Conservationist and broadcaster Chris Packham has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for 2019 for services to nature conservation.
Packham, who has campaigned against blood sports and the badger cull, said the award was like a “silent” thanks from the animals he had defended.
This year he launched a ‘People’s Manifesto for Wildlife’, which is open to contribution from members of the public and highlights some of concerns affecting the landscape and wildlife species, along with solutions to the problems.
Elsewhere in the sustainability sector, director of the Environment Agency Ken Allison was awarded a CBE for services to the environment, through his remit for managing the UK’s flood and coastal risk management.
Chef and founder of the Mexican restaurant chain Wahaca, Thomasina Miers, gained an OBE for services to the food industry. She is known for championing seasonal eating and for her work in campaigning for the restaurant sector to be more sustainable and.
In the conventional farming sector, former president of the NFU, Meurig Raymond, was given an MBE for services to farming.
