Organic farming co-op up for national award

A co-operative of organic farmers and suppliers to veg box company Riverford have been nominated for a prestigious national award celebrating the UK’s best co-operatives.

South Devon Organic Producers (SDOP) was established in 1997 by Riverford founder Guy Singh-Watson, and comprises 12 small-scale farmers in South Devon.

The group has been nominated for Inspiring Co-operative of the Year, run nationally and open to all co-operatives, with winners voted for by members of the public. Voting closes on 13 June and can be done online here.

A spokesperson for the SDOP said: “We’re so excited to be one of just five co-ops shortlisted for the Inspiring Co-Operative of the Year Award.

“We’d be proud to take home an award – we think we deserve it, for all the great work we do planning, planting, growing and harvesting our wonderful organic vegetables. If we’ve inspired you, impressed you, helped you or made a positive difference in any way we’d love it if you could vote for us.”
