Booming success for Riverford suppliers

Next week's annual BOOM awards will pick the very best organic products - we highlight some of Riverford's suppliers who are among this year's finalists.

Next week is the annual BOOM awards by the Soil Association, which celebrate the best of the organic market.

Riverford works with a number of small scale producers who have similar values, and they all deserve every bit of recognition for their outstanding organic food and business ethics. Wicked Leeks hears a little more about those that are up for an award…

We wish them the best of luck, and encourage you to try their award-worthy organic food.

Brue Valley Farm – Organic Salted Butter

Organic butter from Somerset. This grass-fed butter is naturally sweet tasting, made with fresh cow’s milk cream and a pinch of sea salt. The Clapp family at Brue Valley churn their butter in individual batches, for a superbly rich quality.

Riverford Organic Dairy – Crème Fraiche

Organic crème fraîche from Riverford Dairy, our neighbours in Devon, who we farm in rotation with. Tangy and velvet-smooth, made with milk and cream from pasture-fed dairy cows. We’re sure all that organic veg the cows enjoy adds an extra something to the depth of flavour.

Cropwell Bishop Creamery – Organic Blue Stilton

This is the only stilton to ever win Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Award, and we can taste why: it’s superbly rich and tangy, with a smooth, melt-in-the-mouth finish. Cropwell Bishop Creamery is family owned and run, based in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, near Nottingham. The Skailes family has been at the heart of the business for three generations.

Godminster – Vintage Organic Cheddar

Creamy, rich and buttery – extraordinarily good. Soon after converting to organic in 1999, Godminster realised that their milk alone would never generate enough to sustain the farm. They decided to make their own cheddar, so set to work with a traditional 70 year old recipe. The resulting vintage cheddar went down a storm at local farmers’ markets in Somerset. It now has a growing fanbase, including us at Riverford!

Brown Cow Organics – Yogurt

We sell a variety of Brown Cow yogurts, including regular limited edition flavours made often with our organic fruit and veg. Brown Cow Organics yoghurt is made on Judith and Clive’s family farm in Somerset with thick whole milk from their Guernsey cows. They’ve won a slew of awards of flavour and animal welfare.

Dragonfly tofu

Made by our friends at Dragonfly, a family business just down the road from our farm in Devon. Versatile and healthy, their tofu is hard to beat. We sell natural and marinated options.
