There is really only one story this week. The death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer has produced global grief and outrage, and a ripple effect of protests across the world that come in context of a long history of racial injustice and violence against the black community.
As ethical citizens, or anyone who believes in equality, this should affect us all. But as participants in the world of sustainable food, farming and environment, this week’s stories should spark scrutiny of the systemic racism that occurs in just about every sector, including our own. A piece by journalist Emily Atkin has slammed the ‘deafening silence of climate leaders’, while this, by Afua Hirsch, in The Guardian, talks about the situation in relation to Britain.
