Wicked Leeks has been ‘highly commended’ for Best News/Media/Publishing in The Drum Content Awards 2020.

Announced at a virtual ceremony this week, the awards recognise “clear strategic thinking, innovation, effectiveness and tangible results”. Wicked Leeks was shortlisted into a list of four nominees, before being ‘highly commended’ behind one winner.

Judges based their decision on three articles from the last year, a video trailer explaining Wicked Leeks’ mission, and the last three print editions available on Issuu. In addition, they were given evidence of a growing readership and other key results such as developing a brand identity and the magazine’s key aims of informing and inspiring positive change.

Wicked Leeks editor Nina Pullman said: “We are beyond delighted to receive our first-ever external recognition, and among such a high calibre of other entrants. Wicked Leeks has gone from strength to strength over the past two years, with the support of an ever-growing readership.

“This award is also a tribute to Wicked Leeks’ publisher, organic veg box company Riverford, which believed in using storytelling and ethical journalism as a force for good, to help work towards a fairer, more sustainable world.”

The overall winner in the category was an editorial campaign from prominent news platform EuroNews to promote lesser-known American cities as tourist destinations. The full list of winners can be viewed here

Covering sustainable food and ethical business, Wicked Leeks was established in December 2018 and is distributed via a weekly email newsletter, as well as quarterly in print. It is produced in-house by a small team of Riverford co-owners.
